Jenny Collins - About 1

Hello again

For as long as I can remember, design has been part of my life, specifically the design of homes.

I remember as a young child visiting the homes of family and friends. At night, I'd fall asleep mentally redesigning them- shifting a wall here, extending a space there, swopping rooms around. Once I'd got the architectural side correct, I'd move onto the interior design part. In my head, I'd design the kitchen and bathrooms, placing furniture and art- creating a new life in the home.

To me, architecture and interior design are so intertwined that it's hard to separate them; they play off each other. A sound architectural base to your home makes the interior design side easier. There's no need to disguise poor architecture with the interior design if it's all right the first time around. And that’s how I’ve ended up with a background in both in interior design and architecture.

So here I am, an interior designer turned architectural designer. Giving you the best of both worlds.

And I do this by spending my days happily designing from my home studio in Cape Town's Southern Suburbs.

Outside of my studio, I'm the partner in crime to Iain, a green-thumbed garden designer and slave to four hooligan cats, Frankie, Rae, Bailey and Sam.

In good weather, you'll find me walking close by in Groot Constantia's vineyards, breathing in the sea air in Scarborough, or faffing in our garden.

Miserable weather sees me curled up in a blankie reading or making something- from embroidery to smooshing watercolours together to baking healthy treats. Small things that bring joy to my creative soul.

I'm really just a down-to-earth, glass three-quarters full kind of girl trying to create a quiet and simple country-style life in the burbs.
